Real Estate Myths

MLS.ca®  will soon be opened up for public use.

No.  Media reports that the Competition Board is calling for more competitive rules within the Canadian Real Estate Association is true; however, these discussions are in realtion to internal rules for Realtors®, and have nothing to do with allowing the general public to post their listings on mls.ca without representation.

Commission rates vary by area.

No. There is no set rule or standard for how much commission is charged.  Each trade is unique and the commission rate (or amount) is at the discretion of your Realtor®.

70% of home buyers start their search online.

True. Although the exact rate is hard to determine, most buyers will try a few simple internet searches on locations and the majority will start with MLS®, making the internet a MUST for home sellers.

My Realtor® can't help me purchase a home listed for sale privately.

Of course they can!  Making use of a Realtor® is a great way to ensure your interests are protected.  The home seller may even choose to co-operate with your realtor® and cover the commissions.

Is It True...?
